LINDA MARTIN is the sole proprietor of Glisan Street Saddlery, established in 1998.
Linda learned at an early age to be careful what she wished for - her dad bought her first horse for $135 as an 8th grade graduation gift, which then required her to work part-time during high school for a small animal vet.
Linda has worked in the Tack and Apparel Industry since 1980 and worked at some of the best-known stores in the area. During that time she has learned to train and compete in western pleasure, dressage, sport horse in-hand, combined driving and obstacle trail.
Linda has a passion for all things eclectic and creative. She loves to design jewelry and clothing. She enjoys repurposing old items and artwork. Linda recently won an international award for a pair of deerskin gloves that she designed and hand beaded.
Upon entering Glisan Street Saddlery, you will be greeted by celebratory barks from the newest pup "Boo Boo", a recent acquisition from the Oregon Humane Society. Boo really takes his job as the "resident doorbell" seriously and enjoys welcoming everyone that enters.
My Personal Goal
My best day is when I can help owners find what they need, provide solutions to their problems and have them smiling when they walk out the door. It's especially gratifying when they come back to tell me how things are going and share their success stories.
How I define "competitive"
Let's face it- if you have time to surf the internet - you may be able to find a better price somewhere. But, let's be honest - you often get what you pay for. It's difficult to tell the quality of a product from a photograph. We offer a range of products and they are priced competitively. This doesn't mean it's always more expensive, it means If we won't use it ourselves, we won't sell it to you.
How shopping here supports your community
The money you spend at a neighborhood shop has a much greater impact on your community than cash spent at national stores. When you shop local, your tax dollars fund city programs and improve neighborhood services.
When you shop on internet sites or chain stores, you’re unlikely to make the connections that build strong communities and help them thrive. Come into Glisan Street Saddlery and you’ll not only find familiar faces, but you’ll also be rewarded with the chance to catch up on the local horse community news and discuss relevant topics.
Most importantly - Glisan Street Saddlery gives back to the local horse community with donations to many events and organizations. Each year we sponsor the USDF/ODS Jr/YR Team Dressage Championships. We are a business member of the Oregon Dressage Society. All customers that are members of a recognized equestrian organization receive an in-store discount.
What some of my customers are saying -
Best tack store located close-in. I'm always thinking back to "the good ol' days" when local, family owned stores were not only in the business of selling stuff, but were also a knowledge resource for the community. You knew that what you were buying would work, because the person selling it to you had actual experience using a product and was willing to stand behind the quality by selling it in their store. In these days of unhelpful and ignorant non-service at big box stores, the product knowledge provided by the folks at Glisan Street Saddlery exceeds expectations. I love going here and picking the owner's brain - she is warm, kind, and passionate about what she does, and as Jane M noted, is supremely helpful. There is also a section of used riding clothing and you can consign your tack here should you have some clean items that are not in use. Hands down one of my best shopping experiences in the Portland area, and I'll be a loyal customer for as long as I am here! Thank you, Glisan Street Saddlery!
My daughter is new to riding and we were visiting my old hometown and my daughter wanted to checkout tack shops. This was a lovely store with a definite docs on the female rider. The owner was delightful. We will definitely be back when we are in town.
Rarely in today's retail environment do you find the store owner actively behind the counter or on the floor assisting customers with knowledgable, helpful advice. But this is exactly what you will find at Glisan Street Saddlery; outstanding service, product knowledge and competitive pricing. Whether a small-acre dressage enthusiast, OCT or Pony Club member, or working your way up the Levels, Glisan Street is worth the trip.
I have been shopping at Glisan Street Saddlery for 10 years and consistently they have a great selection, excellent prices and are very knowledgeable, friendly and helpful.
Fantastic store! The owner is so helpful and is up-to-date on all of the latest goings-on in the horse community. Great new and used tack for your four-legged friends and fun equine gifts for your favorite equestrian too!
